About

Our Team

Stealing Mona Lisa started with a post by a writer looking for a composer. Claude Solnik, playwright in residence at Theater for the New City, wanted to write a musical about the theft. He posted an announcement. Many people were interested in working on the project. He and Gary Edwards, a composer in Idaho, teamed.

They then brought in Jack Ligenza to direct, Ali Walensky as stage manager, Camila Grunberg and Katie Michelle Stahl to do choreography and Everett Clark for costumes. Tristan Cano signed on as musical director and pianist, while Robert Long helped teach songs. Cano would essentially improvise the show each night, based on the basic music. Casting began, resulting in a talented, committed group who believed in the show.  What happened was magic in Manhattan. After finishing its run at Theater for the New City, Stealing Mona Lisa is being presented one show only Off Broadway at Theateer555, a beautiful theater in the theater district.

Happy New Year from Stealing Mona Lisa

Since the Mona Lisa is on display in the Louvre, it's fairly save to say the painting eventually was recovered. But you may not know it/she was returned Dec. 31 (New Year's Eve) of 1913. Another reason to celebrate!
